Gunnera manicata is an amazing Brazilian Jurassic giant of a plant with leaves up to 6ft (180cm) across. Giant rhubarb describes it well but is unrelated. Pictures do the best talking. With a near tropical origin it is strange that this brute grows so well in Britain. Even though the frost gets the leaves in early winter, they start showing signs of life as early as February and grow from nothing to up to 6ft across by June.

A plant which requires space and constant moisture near water, but not in water. Up to a point it can be grown in a pot, but the only way to get the true measure of the beast is to plant it out and let it roar!

Plants are supplied in 9cm Pots and are babies that need nurturing to adulthood.  Best advice is to grow the plants on in larger pots for a season, giving protection during their first winter. Plant out mature plants from mid March and protect or cover the plants in the event of cold weather until the danger of frost is past.
