Helleborus argutifolius 'Silver Lace'
Helleborus argutifolius 'Silver Lace' is a recently introduced and unusual form of the 'Corsican Hellebore', introduced and bred by RD Plants in Devon. Leathery, lobed leaves cast in silver, light up the shade on this tough evergreen perennial. It is an upstanding and popular Hellebore, making a large clump of striking palmed leaves that provide many textural and contrast possibilities to play with. One of the best perennials for dry shade, they can survive under oak trees once established, with little summer water, and additionally, are not attractive to deer and slugs . Growing up to 60cm tall and eventually spreading up to 120cm wide, cup shaped chartreuse flowers appear from January through to April. The stems are topped with between twenty and thirty cream-green cup-shaped flowers 2.5-5cm across, and their calyxes persist long after the flowers are done. Long lived, and hard to kill, they prefer a rich soil and will grow faster if given average water.
