Description
Deschampsia cespitosa, commonly known as Tufted Hair grass or Tussock grass is a perennial tufted plant in the grass family Poaceae. Distribution of this Deschampsia grass species is widespread, including the eastern and western coasts of North America, parts of South America, and Eurasia. Deschampsia cespitosa ‘Pixie Fountain' is a low-growing, or dwarf upright evergreen perennial variety. Ethereal flower heads appear in June on sturdy stems, and turn amber by early autumn. Choose this variety for mass plantings. It also makes a lovely cut flower—fresh or dried. Tufted hair grasses have been the mainstay in ornamental grass gardens for a long time. Now we have a new miniature, one which is every bit as pretty as its larger cousins. Planted in mass and when in full bloom, Pixie Fountains can be a breathtaking sight. It is also very effective in that it can make other plants in the landscape stand out even more.
